Members of Solidarity and other trade unions from across Poland marched Wednesday through downtown Warsaw demanding a 5 per cent raise next year to cushion inflation and to protest expected job cuts. Approximately 3,500 police officers, border guards, firefighters and miners are protesting plans to freeze their wages next year, marching in Warsaw blowing whistles and horns and waving banners.
